Conveyancer salary in Australia
Conveyancers handle property transfers, company and business law, trusts, wills, probate and litigation. In Australia, the role can be performed by licensed conveyancers or solicitors, and pay varies depending on qualifications, duties and the award that applies.
Where the conveyancer salary sits against the national average
The most recent data from the ABS Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours (May 2023) shows that the median full-time weekly earnings for conveyancers and legal executives is $1,405. That translates to about $73,060 a year before tax, assuming a 38-hour week.
By comparison, the national full-time adult average weekly ordinary time earnings is $2,083.70 (ABS Average Weekly Earnings, May 2026), or roughly $108,352 a year. The conveyancer median is therefore about $35,000 a year below the national full-time average.
It is important to note that the national average is a mean figure, which can be pulled up by high earners, while the conveyancer figure is a median – the middle point of all full-time non-managerial employees in that occupation. The all-employees median across Australia is about $74,100 a year (ABS Employee earnings, August 2025), so the conveyancer median sits close to that broader median.
How the figures are set
The ABS publishes Average Weekly Earnings twice a year, for May and November. The May 2026 release showed annual growth of 3.7% for full-time adult ordinary time earnings. The conveyancer median comes from a different survey – the Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours – which is conducted less frequently. The most recent available data for conveyancers is from May 2023.

Award coverage and minimum wages
Award coverage for conveyancers depends on the specific role:
- Licensed conveyancers employed by a law firm or a licensed conveyancing business are covered by the Legal Services Award 2020. Their classification depends on duties, skills, qualifications and experience.
- Solicitors undertaking conveyancing work in a law firm are award-free. They are entitled to the national minimum wage and the National Employment Standards.
- Clerical and administrative staff who do some conveyancing work may also be covered by the Legal Services Award.
From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour, $1,004.90 a week, or about $52,255 a year on a 38-hour week (Fair Work). Award minimums rose by 4.75% from that date. The conveyancer median of $73,060 is well above the minimum wage, but actual pay under the Legal Services Award will depend on the classification level.
Gender and age profile
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, the conveyancer and legal executive workforce is 84% female, with a median age of 32 years. About 60% work full-time hours. The gender pay gap in this occupation is not separately published, but across all occupations the ABS reports that women's full-time average weekly ordinary time earnings are $1,934.50 compared to men's $2,181.00 (May 2026).
Comparing to other occupations
You can explore how conveyancer pay compares to other roles on our Job medians page. The median full-time earnings for all occupations is about $1,697 per week ($90,532 a year), so conveyancers earn less than the all-occupations median.
Industry context
Conveyancers are most commonly employed in legal services and property operations. The Industry medians page shows average earnings by industry. For example, the legal services industry average is higher than the conveyancer median, reflecting the mix of solicitors and other legal professionals.
Tax considerations
For the 2026–27 income year, resident tax rates are:
- Nil up to $18,200
- 15% on income between $18,201 and $45,000
- 30% on income between $45,001 and $135,000
- 37% on income between $135,001 and $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
A Medicare levy of 2% applies before any reductions. A conveyancer earning $73,060 would fall in the 30% bracket plus Medicare levy.
