Finance analyst salary in context
If you work as a finance analyst in Australia, your pay is likely set by your employer rather than an award. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) does not publish a specific average for this occupation, so the best way to understand where your salary sits is to compare it with the national full-time average, medians, and the minimum wage.
The national full-time average
The ABS Average Weekly Earnings survey for May 2026 shows that full-time adult ordinary-time earnings averaged $2,083.70 per week. That works out to about $108,352 per year (multiply by 52). This figure is the line on this site. If your finance analyst salary is above this, you are earning more than the typical full-time Australian worker; if below, you are below the average.
Medians give a better picture of the typical worker
Averages can be pulled up by very high earners. The median is the middle point: half of all employees earn more, half earn less. For full-time employees, the median weekly earnings are about $1,887 (around $98,124 per year). For all employees (including part-time), the median is $1,436 per week (about $74,672 per year). These figures come from the ABS Employee Earnings and Hours survey, most recently for August 2025. A finance analyst salary is likely to be above the all-employees median, but may be close to the full-time median depending on experience.
The minimum wage as a floor
From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week on a 38-hour week. That is about $52,255 per year. Award minimums increased by 4.75% in the same decision. Finance analysts are rarely paid at award rates, but this floor is a useful reference point.
State-by-state differences
Where you work affects your pay. The ABS publishes full-time average weekly ordinary time earnings for each state and territory. For example, the average in New South Wales is about $2,108.80 per week ($109,658 per year), while in Tasmania it is $1,846.30 per week ($96,008 per year). The Australian Capital Territory has the highest average at $2,290.20 per week ($119,090 per year). If you are a finance analyst in a higher-paying state, your salary may reflect that market.
How to read your salary in weekly and hourly terms
This site shows your yearly salary, then converts it to a weekly amount (divide by 52) and an hourly amount (divide by 38, the standard full-time week). You can place a salary on the line to see how it compares to the national full-time average. You can also explore job medians for other roles, though finance analyst is not separately listed.
Tax on a finance analyst salary
For the 2026–27 income year, resident tax rates are:
- Nil on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Plus a 2% Medicare levy (before any reductions). A finance analyst earning around the national full-time average of $108,352 would fall in the 30% bracket, with a marginal rate of 32% including Medicare.
Where to find more detail
The ABS publishes Average Weekly Earnings twice a year (May and November) and Employee Earnings and Hours every two years. Fair Work maintains the Modern Awards Pay Database, which includes minimum rates for award-covered roles. For a finance analyst, the most relevant source is your own employment contract or enterprise agreement.
If you want to see how your own salary compares, use the line tool to plot it against the national average. You can also check industry medians for finance and insurance services, which may give a broader picture.
