Financial advisor salary and the national average
This page looks at where a financial advisor’s pay sits against the Australian full-time average. The reference point is the ABS Average Weekly Earnings, May 2026 figure for full-time adult ordinary time earnings: $2,083.70 a week, or about $108,352 a year (multiplied by 52). That is the line this site uses.
The median for financial advisors
Jobs and Skills Australia publishes median weekly earnings for occupations. For Financial Investment Advisers and Managers (ANZSCO 2223), the median full-time weekly earnings were $2,582 as of May 2025. That is about $134,264 a year before tax. This is a median for full-time non-managerial adult employees, so it excludes very high or low earners and gives a more typical figure.
How it compares
The financial advisor median is well above the national full-time average of $108,352. It is also higher than the full-time median for all occupations (about $90,532 a year) and the all-employees median (about $74,100 a year), both from the ABS Employee Earnings and Hours survey. The national minimum wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 an hour, or $52,255 a year on a 38-hour week – the financial advisor median is more than double that.
A resident take-home sketch
Using the 2026–27 tax rates, a resident earning the financial advisor median of $134,264 would pay:
- Income tax: about $31,938 (nil on first $18,200, 15% on the next $26,800, 30% on the next $90,000, and 37% on the remaining $264)
- Medicare levy: 2% of taxable income = $2,685
- Total tax and Medicare: $34,623
- Take-home: about $99,641 a year, or $1,916 a week
This is before any deductions, offsets, or the 2% Medicare levy reduction for low-income earners. It gives a rough idea of disposable income for a full-time financial advisor on the median.
State and territory averages
Full-time average weekly ordinary time earnings vary across Australia. The national average of $2,083.70 masks differences like:
- ACT: $2,290.20 ($119,090 a year)
- WA: $2,227.40 ($115,825 a year)
- NSW: $2,108.80 ($109,658 a year)
- Victoria: $2,041.10 ($106,137 a year)
- Queensland: $2,039.70 ($106,064 a year)
- NT: $1,984.10 ($103,173 a year)
- SA: $1,970.20 ($102,450 a year)
- Tasmania: $1,846.30 ($96,008 a year)
A financial advisor in the ACT or WA may earn more than the national median, while those in Tasmania or SA may be closer to the average. States and territories has more detail.

Earnings depend on experience, qualifications, client base, and whether you work in a large firm or independently. The median from Jobs and Skills Australia is a useful benchmark, but individual salaries can range widely. For more on how salaries are measured, see How the figures are set.
