Understanding your salary in three timeframes

When you see a salary figure, it helps to read it as a yearly amount, a weekly amount, and an hourly rate. The national full-time adult ordinary-time average, from the ABS Average Weekly Earnings, May 2026, is $2,083.70 per week – that’s about $108,352 per year on a 38‑hour week. This is the line this site uses to show where your pay sits.

How the figures are set

The ABS surveys employers to get average weekly earnings. The May 2026 release shows that full-time adult ordinary-time earnings rose 3.7% over the year. The average includes all industries and sectors, public and private. For men, the full-time ordinary-time average is about $113,412 a year; for women, about $100,594. These are averages, not medians.

The median full-time weekly earnings from the ABS Employee Earnings and Hours, May 2025, were $1,887 for full-time persons – about $90,532 a year. The median for all employees (including part‑time and full‑time) was $1,436 per week – about $74,100 a year. Medians give a different picture – they show the middle of the pack.

The national minimum wage and award rates

From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour, $1,004.90 a week, or about $52,255 a year on 38 hours. Award minimums rose 4.75% from that date. Fair Work sets these rates. The line on this site is the full-time average, not the minimum.
