How the national average compares to a CEO salary
When you hear about a CEO salary like the one at Woolworths, it can be hard to know where it sits against what most Australians earn. This site uses the national full-time adult average from the ABS Average Weekly Earnings survey (May 2026) as its benchmark line: $2,083.70 a week, or $108,352 a year (multiplied by 52 weeks). That is the figure we use to compare any salary you enter.
The Woolworths CEO salary: not in our data
The Woolworths CEO salary is not published in the ABS, Fair Work, or ATO data sets we rely on. Those sources cover broad earnings statistics for employees across industries, not individual executive pay. Woolworths Group does disclose its CEO's total remuneration in its annual report, but that figure is not part of the official earnings statistics used on this site. Because we only use data from those three organisations, we cannot provide a precise Woolworths CEO salary here.
What we can tell you: the benchmarks
Even without the exact figure, we can show you how a typical CEO salary compares to the national benchmarks.
- National full-time adult average (the line): $108,352 a year (ABS Average Weekly Earnings, May 2026). This is the average ordinary-time earnings for full-time adults, before tax.
- Full-time median: About $90,532 a year (ABS Employee Earnings, August 2025). Half of full-time workers earn less than this.
- All-employees median: About $74,100 a year (ABS Employee Earnings, August 2025). This includes part-time and casual workers.
- National minimum wage: $26.44 an hour, $1,004.90 a week, or $52,255 a year on a 38-hour week (Fair Work, from 1 July 2026). Award minimums rose 4.75% at the same time.
CEO salaries at large ASX-listed companies like Woolworths are typically in the millions of dollars annually, far above all of these figures. Even the top marginal tax rate (45% plus 2% Medicare levy) kicks in at $190,000, which is well below typical CEO pay.
Reading CEO pay as a year, week, and hour
If we had a precise Woolworths CEO salary, we could convert it to a weekly and hourly rate using a 38-hour week (the standard used on this site). For example, a $2 million annual salary would be about $38,461 a week and $1,012 an hour. But without the actual figure, we cannot make that calculation.
State and territory averages for context
CEO pay also varies by location, but the national average is our benchmark. For reference, here are the full-time adult average ordinary-time earnings by state (ABS, May 2026, annualised):
- New South Wales: $109,658
- Victoria: $106,137
- Queensland: $106,064
- South Australia: $102,450
- Western Australia: $115,825
- Tasmania: $96,008
- Northern Territory: $103,173
- Australian Capital Territory: $119,090
Woolworths is headquartered in New South Wales, so the state average there is slightly above the national figure. But CEO pay still dwarfs even the highest state average.
Why we don't have the exact figure
Our site is designed to compare any salary against the national full-time average using official statistics. We do not scrape company annual reports or executive pay databases. The ABS, Fair Work, and the ATO do not collect or publish individual CEO salaries. If you want to see the Woolworths CEO's total remuneration, you can find it in the company's annual report, which is publicly available on their website.
How to use this site with a CEO salary
If you know the Woolworths CEO salary from the annual report, you can enter it on our Place a salary on the line page. We will show you the weekly and hourly equivalent (based on a 38-hour week) and how far it sits above or below the national full-time average. You can also see how it compares to industry medians or job medians.
Understanding the difference between average and median
It is important to note that the national average ($108,352) is higher than the median ($90,532) because high earners pull the average up. CEO salaries are extreme examples of this. When comparing a CEO salary, the average is a more relevant benchmark because it includes all full-time adults, including other high earners. The median tells you what a typical full-time worker earns.
Tax on a CEO salary
If you have a figure for the Woolworths CEO salary, you can estimate the tax using the 2026–27 resident tax rates: nil on the first $18,200, 15% on the next $26,800, 30% on the next $90,000, 37% on the next $55,000, and 45% on anything above $190,000. Plus a 2% Medicare levy. A CEO earning several million dollars would pay the top marginal rate on most of their income.
