Monthly Salary Calculator Australia
If you are paid monthly and want to see how your earnings compare to the national full-time average, the monthly salary calculator on this site makes it straightforward. Enter your yearly salary before tax, and the tool shows your weekly and hourly pay based on a standard 38-hour week, along with the distance from the Australian full-time average. To convert a monthly figure to a yearly one, simply multiply by 12. For example, a monthly salary of $9,000 gives an annual salary of $108,000.
National full-time average
The benchmark used by this site is the national full-time adult ordinary-time average from the ABS Average Weekly Earnings survey, May 2026. That figure is $2,083.70 per week, or about $108,352 per year when multiplied by 52. This is an average, not a median, and it covers full-time employees only. The calculator compares your annual salary to this line, showing whether you are above or below it.
Medians and minimum wage
Averages can be pulled up by high earners, so medians give a different perspective. According to the ABS Employee Earnings survey for August 2025, the full-time median is about $90,532 per year, and the all-employees median (including part-time and casual) is about $74,100. The national minimum wage, set by Fair Work from 1 July 2026, is $26.44 per hour, $1,004.90 per week, or about $52,255 per year on a 38-hour week. Award minimums rose by 4.75% from that date.
State comparisons
Full-time averages vary across Australia. The on-site notes show: New South Wales about $109,658; Victoria about $106,137; Queensland about $106,064; South Australia about $102,450; Western Australia about $115,825; Tasmania about $96,008; Northern Territory about $103,173; and the Australian Capital Territory about $119,090. You can see how your salary compares in your state by visiting the States and territories page.
Tax and take-home pay
The calculator shows pre-tax figures, but understanding tax helps you estimate net pay. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are: nil on the first $18,200; 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000; 30% from $45,001 to $135,000; 37% from $135,001 to $190,000; and 45% above $190,000. The Medicare levy of 2% applies before any reductions. These rates are set by the ATO.
How the distance is shown
Once you enter your yearly salary, the calculator displays the dollar and percentage difference from the national full-time average. For instance, a salary of $90,000 is about $18,352 below the average, while $120,000 is about $11,648 above. The weekly and hourly breakdown helps you see the gap in practical terms.
