Seek Salary and the National Full-Time Average
When you search for a job on Seek, the advertised salaries can vary widely. But how do those figures stack up against the official national full-time average? This page explains where the line sits and what the authoritative sources say about earnings in Australia.
The National Full-Time Average
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) publishes the Average Weekly Earnings survey twice a year, for May and November. The most recent release, for May 2026, shows that full-time adult average weekly ordinary-time earnings (seasonally adjusted) are $2,083.70 per week. Multiply by 52 weeks, that is about $108,352 per year before tax. This is the figure used as the line on this site – the benchmark against which any salary can be compared.
The ABS also reports separate figures for men and women. Men’s full-time ordinary-time average is about $2,181.00 per week ($113,412 per year; women’s $2,154.00 per week $100,594 per year). The public sector average is higher than the private sector average of $2,034.10 per week.
Medians: Full-Time and All Employees
The ABS also publishes Employee Earnings and Hours survey (most recently May 2025) gives median weekly earnings. For full-time employees, the median is $1,887 per week (about $90,532 per year). For all employees (including part-time), the median is $1,436 per week (about $74,100 per year). Medians are different from averages – they represent the middle point, so half earn more and half earn less.
Minimum Wage
Fair Work sets the national minimum wage each year. From 1 July 2026, the minimum is $26.44 per hour, $1,004.90 per week, or about $52,255 per year on a 38-hour week. This applies to employees not covered by an award or agreement. Award minimums rose 4.75% in the same annual wage review. The minimum wage is roughly half the full-time average.
State and Territory Averages
Full-time averages vary across Australia. The ABS provides state-level figures for May 2026. Using the on-site notes, the state full-time averages are:
- New South Wales: about $109,658 per year
- Victoria: about $106,137
- Queensland: about $106,064
- South Australia: about $102,450
- Western Australia: about $115,825
- Tasmania: about $96,008
- Northern Territory: about $103,173
- Australian Capital Territory: about $119,090
These are full-time adult ordinary-time earnings, converted to annual figures. The Australian Capital Territory has the highest average, while Tasmania has the lowest.
How Seek Salaries Compare
Seek is a job advertisement platform that lists salaries for thousands of jobs. However, the ABS does not publish a single “seek salary” figure for Seek. The advertised salaries on Seek may differ from the national average because they reflect current market conditions, specific industries or occupations. Some jobs may be advertised above the line, some below. Without a precise figure from the ABS or Fair Work, we cannot say exactly where Seek salaries sit. But you can use this site to compare any salary against the national full-time average.
Tax and Tax
If you are comparing a salary, remember that it is before tax. For 2026–27, the tax rates: nil to $18,200; 15% to $45,000; 30% to $135,000; 37% to $190,000; 45% above that. Also the Medicare levy 2% before reductions.
